Joint Center at St. Agnes—Patient Guide

Before Your Surgery

Should you decide on surgery at St. Agnes, you will receive a call from The Joint Connection Coordinator who will review your medical history and your goals. You will need to have a complete physical to determine any conditions that need to be addressed prior to surgery. You will be scheduled for a pre-operative education class.

Pre-Operative Education

The pre-operative education class is scheduled one to two weeks prior to your surgery. You will meet other patients but most importantly you will meet your health care team and learn what to expect from this team. You will also learn what the team expects from you.

The Day of Your Surgery

You will meet with the Coordinator and the surgeon prior to surgery, which will last from one to two hours. Your family will be updated on your condition during surgery and once you are in the recovery room. You will be given a private room on the special Joint Connection unit, where your family can be awaiting you.

Your Program Days

The Coordinator and nurses on the unit will check in with you regularly. Physical and occupational therapy will become regular parts of your day in the newly constructed Independence Square at St. Agnes. You will experience real-life situations in the virtual village environment of this unique rehabilitation site. You will be out of bed the day after surgery and exercising with other patients who are in the same program.

Your Homecoming

You will be home in just a few days. Your rehabilitation will continue at home and you will be given specific instructions and an exercise routine from your discharge nurse. Should your rehabilitation continue on an outpatient basis, please take advantage of Independence Square and free valet parking for patients and visitors.

Your Goals

If you are considering joint replacement surgery you will want to go to a center that has your goals in mind. The Joint Connection at St. Agnes wants to work with you to regain independence, mobility and freedom from pain.
