Joint Replacement & Reconstruction
Taking care of a severely injured or diseased joint is
more than applying state-of-the-art surgical techniques. It is the skilled
hands-on evaluation and appropriate diagnostic testing that determines
the best overall plan of care.
At St. Agnes, we exhaust every appropriate treatment
option before considering surgery. If a surgical procedure becomes the right
choice, our team of specialists is trained to correct problems related to
joint pain. Our approach to joint care and surgery produces outstanding clinical
and patient satisfaction results. This integrated approach enables our clinical
team to properly evaluate a patient’s condition and prepare each patient
mentally and physically for their procedure.
Hip Replacement Surgery
Hip replacement surgery removes the arthritic ball of the
upper femur (thighbone) as well as the damaged cartilage from the hip socket.
The ball is replaced by a metal or ceramic ball that is solidly fixed to a
stem inserted into the femur.

Knee Replacement Surgery
Knee replacement surgery is really a cartilage replacement.
The knee itself is not replaced, only the cartilage on the ends of the bones.
Knee replacement implants include a metal alloy on the bottom of the thighbone
and polyethylene (plastic) on the top of the tibia and underneath the kneecap.

surgery is necessary, the surgeon may perform either a total shoulder replacement
