Gynecologic Oncology
The Cancer Center at St. Agnes delivers advanced services
in GYN oncology. A wide range of clinical treatments is available,
combining the disciplines of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation
therapy in the management of gynecological cancer in women of all ages.
Various malignancies are treated, including cervical, endometrial, vulvar,
vaginal, ovarian, as well as other abdominal and pelvic masses.
Techniques
pioneered at St. Agnes are not widely in use at other local institutions;
while the standard for laparoscopic equipment is 10-12mm, St. Agnes
routinely uses 3-5mm equipment in the treatment of endometrial cancers
and ovarian masses.
intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy (IPHC) is being used as
a unique management of ovarian and peritoneal cancers. Research protocols
and clinical trials are made available through the Gynecological
Oncology Group (GOG). Gynecological oncology treatment planning is
coordinated in conjunction with medical and radiation oncology associates,
leading to a comprehensive, full-service approach.
