Andrew Averbach, M.D.
Dr. Averbach received his medical degree from N. Pirogov Medical School in Moscow, Russia in 1979. He completed training in general surgery and gastrointestinal oncology and practiced at Hertzen Cancer Research Institute until 1992, when he started a research fellowship at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Averbach graduated from the Saint Agnes Hospital surgical residency program in 2002.
Dr. Averbach is Director of Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Saint Agnes Hospital, specializing in bariatric, laparoscopic and general surgery.
Dr. Averbach is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgeons. He has published more than 80 articles on different topics of general, laparoscopic surgery and surgical oncology.

Kuldeep Singh, M.D.
Dr. Singh received his medical degree in orthopedic surgery from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He completed his surgical residency at Saint Agnes Hospital, as well as additional training in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the Minimally Invasive Training Institute at St. Joseph Hospital in Baltimore.
Dr. Singh is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Lapro-Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He has written and lectured extensively on laparoscopic surgery.

David
von Rueden, M.D.
Dr. von Rueden received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his surgical residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, and Lankenau Hospital, Philadelphia, followed by a surgical oncology fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Dr. von Rueden’s surgical career began at Lankenau Hospital, where he became Assistant Program Director for the Surgical Residency Program while also holding an academic appointment at Jefferson Medical College as Liaison for Medical Student Education. He was instrumental in developing a laparoscopic surgical program at Lankenau. He is an advanced laparoscopic surgeon with special interest in bariatrics. He has developed bariatric programs in both Philadelphia and Baltimore.
Dr. von Rueden is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Cathy Carr, R.N.
Cathy is the Bariatric Services Coordinator at Saint Agnes Hospital, and provides a first-hand knowledge of bariatric surgery, as she had open Roux-en-Y surgery in November 1999. Since that time, she’s lost more than 180 lbs. Cathy has been a registered nurse since 1985 and has been a staff nurse at St.Agnes HealthCare since 1987.
Cathy helped to lobby the state Senate in 2001 to help pass HB 675, which will help many Marylanders obtain insurance approval for gastric bypass surgery.
