St. Agnes Surgical Residency Program
The Saint Agnes General Surgery Residency
is a 5-year program, fully accredited by the Accreditation Councel for
Graduate Medical Education through its Residency Review Committee in Surgery.
This academically oriented, community based, university affiliated residency program is the second oldest surgical residency. Residents are offered a broad-based
surgical experience with exposure not only to the field of greater general
surgery, but also to all the surgical specialties.
The department has an active program in both basic and
advanced laparoscopic surgery. St. Agnes Hospital has centers
of excellence in oncology, orthopedic surgery, and bariatric surgery.
Our Surgical Oncology Division is the leader in the treatment
of advanced intra-abdominal malignancies, with a national referral base. The program receives referrals from some of the most highly respected university hospitals and clinics in the world. The Mid-Atlantic Blood
Management Center offers residents a unique experience in managing
patients using a wide variety of alternatives to transfusion. There
is extensive experience in managing the critically ill surgical
patient. There are also rotations in burn management, gynecology,
and gastrointestinal endoscopy.
The educational experience at St. Agnes Hospital is complemented by rotations
at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland Hospitals.
