Chief Resident, 2008-2009
St Agnes is the place you want to be. Being a community
hospital, it provides a rich and conducive learning environment with
a friendly atmosphere. There is a huge diversity of residents and faculty
which has been one of the major determinants of this program. As
a resident, you get to work with faculty who are extraordinary in their
field with exceptional teaching abilities which creates a lot of opportunities
for more learning. St Agnes has been very successful in creating a perfect
balance of determination, discipline, excellent patient care and
work ethics. During my training as a resident and Chief Resident, there
has never been a time or moment I regretted to be at St Agnes. A huge advantage
is that the program gives individualized attention to all the residents
and aids them in achieving their goals in various aspects of careers in
Internal Medicine including fellowships, primary care and hospitalists.
St Agnes is very demanding, and it’s a challenging 3 years of residency; and
the major factor that makes it look easy is the friendly and collegial
atmosphere between the residents, faculty and other subspecialty physicians.
Apart from the usual hospital work, St Agnes provides many opportunities
for extracurricular activities such as picnics and recreational time when
all the residents and faculty get together along with their family members.
It has been a privilege to be a part of the St Agnes family, and I am proud of it.

“Patient, team, service, and self…” is what St Agnes is about. I became interested in Saint Agnes because of the elite caliber of leadership, servitude, close community, and diversity of the residency program. The attendings are easily approachable, interested in our careers, and some also took special interest in our personal lives as well.
As a foreign graduate with a family, it was initially difficult balancing the life of residency while maintaining a stable household. When my priorities overlapped, and staying on track was challenging, Dr. Dy and the faculty were there for me. I was able to renew my passion for medicine and strengthen my leadership skills during residency.
Saint Agnes has prepared me well for my career as a military physician and Captain in the United States Air Force. In all, I am proud to be an alumnus of St Agnes Hospital. I have no reservation in saying that you too will have a similar enriching experience, while nurturing your leadership skills and learning the virtue of hard work and helping all those in need with reverence and compassion.

After three years of residency at Saint Agnes Hospital I feel I received the appropriate training to be out there on my own… you encounter such a variety of cases and you received a great deal of support to manage your patients. Also, you get as much autonomy as you are able to earn, as you earn the trust of your attending. Being a small program also has its perks: you establish a very close professional relationship with your colleagues and attendings and learn the true meaning of “team work” (as you are certainly unable to take care of everything). Despite this, if multitasking was not your strong suit, well, congrats, you’ll master it by the end of residency.
It is a wild ride, all right, but if you approach it with the right state of mind, you’ll love it. My advice? Be responsible… AND HAVE FUN!!!”

Chief Medical Resident 2005-2006
At
Saint Agnes Hospital, we have a unique opportunity to see a wide array of
diseases that challenges us daily. Training at Saint Agnes will provide a
comprehensive foundation in Internal Medicine in any type of clinical setting.
We also have the opportunity to participate in various types of research
with our clinical faculty, who provide us with expert guidance.
One of the many highlights in our program is the diversity
among our residents and the very close collegial relationships between
residents and clinical faculty. This tight knit approach ultimately benefits
our patient. The Saint Agnes Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program
will be challenging but also a truly enjoyable three years in your career!
Nareesa Mohammed, M.D.,
Associate Chief Resident 2005-2006
Saint
Agnes is a great place to work because we have a small program that really
feels like a family. Saint Agnes cares about all of its employees from
the janitor to the attending physicians and it shows. The people here are
very friendly and helpful and the resources are amazing. I like that we
have lots of community outreach programs and make a difference in the people
who live around us.
I also believe in the directives of the hospital that
no one should be left behind for lack of money or insurance. Another asset
to our program is our diversity. We have many different countries and cultures
represented in one small program. This helps us to deal with the many cultures
that we see in the real world. I believe that the Saint Agnes Internal
Medicine Residency program does an exceptional job preparing physicians
for both fellowship and private practice in general medicine. Come join
us!
Donna Bilu Martin, M.D.
Resident, 2004-2005
Like
most interns, I was terrified on my first day. Would I know how to
treat disease; how to prescribe medications; what to do in an emergency?
Luckily, the one thing I didn’t have to worry about was whether
or not I had picked the right hospital to do my preliminary year
at.
The faculty is superb: easily approachable and ready
to teach. The residents I worked with were more than teachers and colleagues;
they became my friends. At Saint Agnes I was able to help treat a diverse
group of patients, and I graduated feeling confident and well-prepared.
