St. Agnes Residency Programs:

A Rich Tradition of Educational Excellence

Established in 1906, the St. Agnes surgical residency program is the second oldest in the United States; the medical residency was founded shortly thereafter. Today we are a comprehensive health system—physicians, hospital, diagnostic imaging center, cancer center, ambulatory clinics and other provider relationships—all uniquely qualified to guide you on your educational journey.

St. Agnes is a full-service community teaching hospital with residency programs in a number of medical and surgical subspecialties. Its primary mission continues to be service to the poor and medically underserved. It also attracts referrals from across the country for its specialized programs.

The Ideal Environment for a Practical Education
Your residency will be based primarily at St. Agnes Hospital, with rotations at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland. Exceptional support services, such as nursing staff and IV teams, allow the resident physician to concentrate on the care of patients and other academic pursuits. The general surgery resident is exposed to all subspecialties, resulting in a broad-based surgical experience. At St. Agnes you will learn patient care in the most practical sense.
