Leading Up to Your Surgery

Surgery can be an unsettling experience. While you are in the capable hands of your surgeon, you are also in the caring hands of Saint Agnes staff. The following information is designed to make this an easier experience for you.

Pre-Surgical Telephone Interview
The staff of the Registration Services and Pre-Admission Testing will call you prior to your admission. Your testing will be discussed then. We will also need to know pertinent demographic information as well as medical insurance and/or financial payment information so that we can prepare your records.

Pre-Admission Testing/Required Tests
If your surgery is to be performed under local anesthesia, no tests are required unless ordered by our physician. If your surgery is to be performed under any other form of anesthesia, certain preoperative tests may be required.

Saint Agnes offers pre-admission testing for surgical patients. You may need certain tests such as chest X-ray, EKG or blood tests. Other tests may be ordered by your doctor. For an appointment, call 410-368-2927.

Ideally, a medical history and physical examination should be performed within 7 days prior to surgery.

Your physician may order preliminary tests prior to surgery. If your physician orders X-rays of the abdominal area, women of childbearing age will be asked to fill out the “X-ray Warning Certificate.” If you are woman of childbearing age, please discuss this with your physician.

Reports relating to your medical history, physical examination or any other tests performed outside the hospital must be received by the Saint Agnes Hospital Pre-Admission Testing Suite at least three working days before your surgery. If the required test results are not available prior to your admission, it may be necessary to cancel your surgery.

Pre-Admission Testing Suite
The Saint Agnes Hospital Pre-Admission Testing Suite is located in the Surgery entrance off Caton Avenue. It is open six days a week for your convenience. The hours of the Pre-Admission

Testing Suite are:

• Monday - Thursday: 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Friday: 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Saturday: 7 a.m. to 12 noon

Telephone Hours

• Monday - Thursday: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Friday: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
