Pediatrics, an overview
Each year, Saint Agnes sees more than 20,000 patients in our pediatric emergency room. We treat an average 300 babies in our neo-natal intensive care unit, and care for as many as 1,800 newborns in our Well-Baby Nursery. So when we say we have the experience to handle any and all pediatric concerns—we mean it.
Our pediatric division includes 3 main departments:
The Pediatric Emergency Department
Pediatric emergencies are handled in a distinct section of the emergency room, which includes a separate admitting and waiting area for privacy. It’s a comfortable and safe alternative to the average hospital ER. At least one pediatrician is on hand 24/7, supported by a team of nurses and other medical personnel.
At Saint Agnes our goal is to make what could be a traumatic situation as comforting and calming as possible. Colorful, cartoon murals are designed to put your child at ease, while plastic stethoscopes, bandages and other fun toys provide a welcome distraction.
The Well-Baby Nursery
Newborn babies are cared for in our acclaimed Well-Baby Nursery, where they receive round-the-clock monitoring by our team of nurses and pediatricians.
The Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU provides high level care and monitoring for babies born prematurely or with complications that require special attention. The skilled NICU team includes neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and other professionals specifically trained to deal with the unique needs of newborn babies.
Hospital Stays & Treatment for Children
We understand that children and adolescents require different care and a different environment than adults—so they can heal quickly, safely and comfortably. We devote an entire inpatient ward of the hospital exclusively to pediatric care. Here, your child is treated by a multidisciplinary team that includes pediatric hospitalists, who specialize in the care of hospitalized children and supervise a team of residents from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
