Building Confidence as You Heal

The only one of its kind in Maryland, Independence Square is a 4800 square foot virtual village. Patients post-surgery or after receiving medical care can practice navigating their way through Independence Square, gaining skills and confidence before going back out on their own.

And there are indoor environments as well. In the three-room model apartment, patients spend time in a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom, learning how they can best get around in their own homes and complete everyday tasks. It is a great benefit to provide practice in true-to-life situations with the safety of a medically supervised environment.

The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and other generous donors to the Saint Agnes Foundation helped make Independence Square a reality.
