An overview of our Neurology Department
The Neurology department at Saint Agnes Hospital offers a variety of services for both hospitalized and ambulatory patients. Saint Agnes has a diversified neurologist group with certification in the management in a number of complex sub-specialties including stroke, neuromuscular disorders, epilepsy, integrative neurology, and sleep medicine. Consultation and on-going treatment for all neurologic disorders is provided.
Hospitalized patients with neurologic disorders are treated on a thirty bed telemetry monitored neurology specialty unit where staff members are specifically trained in stroke and other nervous system illnesses. This unit is under the direction of a board certified neurologist.
Our Stroke Center is accredited nationally by The Joint Commission and by our state through The Maryland Institute for Emergency Services System. The Saint Agnes Stroke Center has been recognized in US News and World Report as a “Best Hospital” for stroke care for three consecutive years and has earned the “Gold Plus” award from the American Stroke Association – the highest recognition awarded for Stroke programs.
Services for the evaluation and treatment of neuromuscular disorders and epilepsy feature board certified neurologists specializing in electrodiagnostic and laboratory testing, diagnosis and treatment for patients. The Department of Neurology electrodiagnostic laboratory is staffed with certified neurologists and technicians for these services.
The Neurology Department also offers integrative medicine techniques for the treatment of neurological disorders including acupuncture services for patients with pain, spasticity, stroke, migraine, and other neurologic disorders. The department’s interdigitation of standard Western and Integrative medicine is unique in Neurology and has proven successful with dramatically helping neurology patients in the recovery process.
