Dr. Zatina completed his residency in surgery at the University of Chicago and his vascular fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania. He further honed his clinical skills and judgment in vascular surgery while serving as an Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and then as an Associate Professor at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, Jersey. Dr. Zatina joined Saint Agnes in 1992 where he served for a decade as Chairman of the Department of Surgery and Program Director of the Surgical Residency. During his tenure, he oversaw the launching of the Section of Surgical Oncology, and the initiation of the bariatric surgery program. Working with Dr. Mohler, then the Chairman of Medicine, he helped launch the multidisciplinary Cancer Center, and helped merge the surgical and medical ICUs into the present combined AICU. Throughout his entire career, Dr. Zatina has always enjoyed great satisfaction in watching the surgical trainees develop into leaders in surgery.
