A Tradition of Caring
Care of patients has evolved greatly in the medical profession over the past 150 years, and Saint Agnes positioned itself as a leader early on – creating the second oldest surgical residency program in the U.S., developing a well-trained nursing staff and Nursing School, as well as a highly qualified resident staff, and establishing full-time faculty, physicians, and department chiefs. Together, this created the strong foundation from which our current medical staff continues to grow, bringing the very best in healthcare to each of our patients.
LEADING THE WAY
Saint Agnes continued to lead in medical advancements, creating the first Chest Pain Emergency Department in the world, being the first in Maryland to bring tomotherapy treatment to cancer care, and leading Maryland in weight loss surgery.
In 1999, Saint Agnes’ parent organization, The Daughters of Charity National Health System (DCHS), joined the Sisters of St. Joseph Health System to create Ascension Health, the largest non-profit health care organization in the nation and the current parent organization of Saint Agnes Hospital.
CAPITAL EXPANSION
Saint Agnes recently completed a $200+ million expansion that emphasizes patient safety in a high quality healthcare environment. The expansion includes a new patient tower , the new 80,000-square-foot Angelos Medical Pavilion which is home to a variety of specialties, including an expanded Cancer Institute, a new parking garage, and the Hackerman-Patz House for families of patients being treated for long-term ailments.
CONNECTING THRU TECHNOLOGY
With a finger on the pulse of high-technology healthcare, Saint Agnes not only demands the use of high-tech equipment in diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions, the hospital is well-vested in online technologies to connect with patients and the community.
In 2010, Saint Agnes presented a new website designed to engage with the community, patients and families, presenting clinical information to aide in research and gaining a better understanding of the comprehensive and advanced services we offer. Videos are incorportated throughout the site to allow viewers to hear from our experts and begin to build important relationships as patients begin their journey to better health.
To complement the hospitals main website, and honor the success of our patients, a new site was created in 2012, titled 360: Your Health From Every Angle. This site is filled with mini documentaries, videos and stories that show the impact that our medical staff has made on the most important part of the Saint Agnes Team—our patients.
A BRILLIANT FUTURE
Saint Agnes Hospital’s 150-year history has created a strong foundation that has positioned us well for a brilliant future. Our commitment to healthier communities drives our medical team to continue to bring the latest in technology and medical advancements, leading to the very best that healthcare has to provide.
