After a strong philanthropic year, the Saint Agnes Foundation was able to distribute $4 million in grants to improve community health and the patient experience at Saint Agnes Hospital.
From capital projects to equipment and services for patients, gifts made to the Saint Agnes Foundation make a difference daily at Saint Agnes Hospital. The foundation just completed one of its strongest philanthropic years ever, distributing $4 million dollars in grants to the hospital and community to enhance the patient experience.
Angelos Medical Pavilion
In February the new Angelos Medical Office Building opened, supported by a very generous $2.5 million gift from Peter and Georgia Angelos. The new 80,000 Square foot building houses an expanded Cancer Institute as well as cardiovascular, urology, bariatric and general surgery. Physicians and associates are delighted with the new treatment areas. Dr. Carole Miller, Director of the Cancer Institute, commented, “Our hospital has long been a leader in the diagnosis and treatment of various forms of cancer. Due to the rising demand for cancer treatment we had outgrown our prior space. The new Angelos Medical Pavilion has helped us overcome that challenge. With the expansion, patients have access to greater resources, like advanced treatment technologies, a comfortable healing environment, and coordinated interactions with various specialties on our medical staff.”
Two major Foundation grants advanced the transformation of the former Cardinal Gibbons School into the multi-use facility envisioned as Gibbons Commons. The first grant allowed the hospital to move forward with essential planning actions needed for design, zoning, and presentation to community groups. The second grant, made with proceeds from Caritas, the Saint Agnes Spring Gala, allowed Saint Agnes Foundation to make a $220,000 grant to the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation for development of the Babe Ruth Field at Gibbons Commons, on the area where Babe Ruth first learned to play baseball.
Nursing Study Grants
Charitable gifts touch all aspects of the hospital, including our next generation of care providers. Three programs, the Nurse-Work Study program, the Caroline Center Nursing Practicum, and the Associated Italian American Charities Nursing Scholarship program, support future nurses as they are educated and trained. In some instances these grants are pivotal to giving students the financial resources to complete their studies.
Charitable Care Grants
Patient care and charitable grants are an important part of the foundation’s programs. Some patients do not have the resources to receive the care they need. Grants from the Foundation assist with a range of needed items and services, including screenings, transportation, medical compression garments, and infant formula.
