Training
The surgical residency training program at Saint Agnes provides outstanding opportunities for personal growth and incremental responsibility. There is intense involvement in the preoperative, operative and postoperative care of both the routine cases that one will see the most in surgical practice, as well as the most challenging cases that can be faced by the surgeon of the future. The training allows for very broad, balanced exposure to general surgery and various specialties. Resident teams are exposed to the operating room, emergency department, offices, clinics and critical care areas for the duration of the program.
Residents grow in their leadership and teaching responsibilities as they progress and receive the mentorship and didactic training required to nurture these skills. In addition, they are exposed to a total number of surgical cases that far exceeds the requirements for accreditation and board certification.
Medical Students
Medical students have been a part of Saint Agnes’ training program for more than six decades. Students are active participants in the training program and are well incorporated into the team. They also participate in the teaching conferences. In addition, there are conferences especially for the student. The opportunity for the residents to teach the students contributes significantly to the professional development of the resident as well as provides a vital service to the student.
Physician Assistants and Physician Assistant Students
Physician assistants and PA students are well integrated into our training program. This allows for the maximum professional development of both residents, PA
