Frenchy Mackes:
A St. Agnes Miracle
On October 16, 2006, I was admitted to St. Agnes Hospital and remained until October 30th. Dr. Jesus Esquivel performed a cytoreduction with intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy. The MOAS (Mother of All Surgeries) as it is known removed a 9 lb. 6 oz. tumor, my gall bladder, spleen, appendix, ½ of my colon, part of my intestines, a large amount of fluid and my belly button – a 30 pound weight loss. Effective, but not recommended! The only thing I really miss is my belly button, not having had a close relationship with the other parts!
Dr. Esquivel and his team of Allison, Trish and Robin have been outstanding since my first visit. They literally saved my life and along with the 7th floor medical staff did so in an unbelievably compassionate and caring way. The commitment of the nurses and techs on the cancer unit is amazing. They are very professional and kind. My wife spent every night with me sleeping in a lounge chair by my bedside. She was also treated wonderfully.
On April 17, 2 007, I was again admitted. This time Dr. Kerry Owens passed repaired a very large stomach hernia and Dr. Esquivel manipulated the remainder of my colon and intestines to determine the status of the cancer that remained. Further chemotherapy was not needed and my stay was only eight days this time.. Again the wonderful 7th floor Cancer Unit staff was outstanding. Their caring attitudes are exemplary and it is great to have people explain what they are doing when they probe, poke, move, stick and examine you! Your staff is to be commended for being such caring professionals. Too many wonderful people were involved. To name them all would be impossible and I certainly do not want to accidentally omit some. Dr. Esquivel, Allison, Trish and Robin are terrific. However, I do also need to name God and thank Him! It may be hard to believe, but from the day I left St. Agnes after each of my stays, I have been pain free. That is my testimony to an incredibly merciful answer to countless prayers.
