Connie SchaffermanI am a single parent of a daughter Nicole Schafferman who will turn a 26 on January 13, 1982. She was born when there was a blizzard in ’82. It has been snowing for a week when I went into labor and proceeded to Saint Agnes Hospital. The care I received then was excellent. My doctor, Dr. Grumbine, had to come to the hospital in a snow mobile. That showed the dedication of the doctor. I am writing my story for the gratitude I have for the OB/GYN department. Brian R. DonchezI would like to share my story about the wonderful, and life saving, treatment I received from the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Saint Agnes Cancer Center. In May 2002, I was diagnosed with cancer and was immediately rushed into the whole process of setting up medical appointments and scheduling cancer treatments. As I look back on it now, the process was just what the doctors, nurses, and the entire staff in your Cancer Center was trained for and it was amazing to see the coordination, dedication, professionalism, and attention to every detail with which they handled my personal situation. Anna CainOctober 2006 began my journey with cancer. There were endless people associated with Saint Agnes who helped me along that journey. Beginning with the out-patient department, to the Women's Center, to the in-patient department, and ending at the Cancer Center all those you meet make you feel as if you matter. Even people you never meet, from the labs, the laundry, the kitchen, painters and cleaning staff show their concern by the professional way they accomplish their job. Each day I arrived at St Agnes I was alone. But I left with all the good wishes of friends who were with me during what became an adventure. Pick one person to be recognized—just not possible. |
Charlotte ClarkI want to thank my Social Worker in Cancer Services. She was an Angel to me. She helped me to find answers to any problem, I mean any problem. She always had smile for my dear husband and me. There was always hugs and hand holding without asking. If there was anyone dedicated to her job, it was Jennifer (Broaddus). I don’t know what I would have done without her kindness, her warmth, her gentleness. I thank God for her every day. My dear husband passed away and Jennifer attended his memorial, just to feel her hug and her warm smile gave me comfort. I will thank her in my prayers and I thank God that He put her in my path. |
Kathleen PittDr. Enser Cole has been my oncologist since my first diagnosis with breast cancer 22 years ago. He monitored my health every three months from its onset. During this time, before leaving the country to pursue other career goals, he was caring and knowledgeable. I didn't need a primary doctor, he would refer to a specialist for other health issues if needed. I was most pleased when Dr. Cole returned to the United States and I learned that he was at Saint Agnes and that he would see former patients. I feel extremely confident to be under the care of Dr. Cole. He communicates with other doctors and advises me regarding my health concerns. I have the utmost respect for Dr. Cole. Saint Agnes is fortunate to have him on its staff. |

Terry DaileyI was a 42-year-old cancer patient who is petrified of needles. As most people do, I also had a lot of other issues besides the cancer. Nurse Linda Gardener made me feel special each time I went for treatment and still does years after treatment. She sat down with me one day and just talked and hugged me. LindaI possibly had a scary diagnosis of cancer. Dr. Gavin Henry and his staff were very professional and yet were friendly, warm and helpful. Dr. Rifino (my primary) and her staff were the same way. She matched me up with a specialist who would get me through a rough time. Your doctors make me feel like I am in safe hands. |
Jim and M.J. SharerThose Wonderful Golden Years!! Yes, my wife and I looked forward to those years only to find sickness, legs that don’t work well and the inability to go places and do things. Following a 6-07-06 operation to clear my left lung cavity of fluid caused by pneumonia, Dr. Henry’s team found a non-Hodgekins lymphoma. Lucky me!! Mabel MeckI received outstanding information, medical treatment, and nursing care during my 31-hour stay at Saint Agnes for a mastectomy. The young night-time attendant was especially helpful and kind. I wish all hospital stays were as pleasant—and the food was good. Margaret R. WileyOn September 9, 2008 Doctor William Cook sent me, directly from his office, to the Emergency Room at Saint Agnes Hospital. Over fifty years of compulsive, addictive smoking had left me gasping for breath with a depleted oxygen level of 80%. I was barely able to stand and far too sick to object. Having grown up in Arbutus, my childhood memories of Saint Agnes were of a dark and dismal place inhabited by stern Nuns in flowing black habits. Maria DurhamMy name is Maria Durham and on December 27th 2007 I came into the ER for ABD pain. I was admitted and the next day I became gravely ill. I was placed on 5 North. I went into respiratory distress and was transferred to AICU. I am writing this letter to let you know how grateful I am to have been placed in the care of Dr. Shah and his residents. Susan McLeanOn February 2, 2007, my husband brought me to the Emergency Room. Erin Harless, R.N. took charge and took care of me. I was close to death, but she stepped up and was an exceptional nurse. She also comforted my family through this very hard situation. All nurses need to be like her. Albert MelloOf the 3 times I was in the hospital since September 6th, I was on 7 North. All the nurses who saw to my care were excellent. But the two who stand out the most are Elaine and Leona. Not only did they care for me, but they also cared for my wife, tending to our every need. These nurses took me under their wings and helped me when I needed it most. AnonymousI have been a patient at Saint Agnes many times. I had 2 children there but also had 3 miscarriages and was treated there also. Dr. Tom Jones was there for the good times and bad times. Dr. Jones was always so kind and patient through my rough periods. I don't think he ever realized that when I lost a baby when I was five months pregnant his manner helped make the ordeal manageable. Raymond ClobusI was admitted to Saint Agnes Surgery Dept. on 6/11/07 for a lower left lobectomy. I was very apprehensive (first major surgery ever). Dr. Gavin Henry and Nurse Patricia Roesch put me totally at ease after operation with wonderful care and asurance that I would be fine if obeying post-op patient instructions. Since then everything has worked out fine and I am on my way to a full recovery. I had great care by the nurses and team, good meals and a very pleasant stay. Thanks again. |
